AUCTION - AOR 3.86 - Moby Grape - 1968 Poster - The Bank - Good

AUCTION - AOR 3.86 - Moby Grape - 1968 Poster - The Bank - Good

Offered for auction is a concert poster from a short-lived venue called the Bank in Torrance, CA. Moby Grape played the weekend of September 6-8, 1968. Impressive line drawing homage to the painting by Davide, The Death of Marat Sade. From 1793, no less! The artwork is by Bob Wilson, who did a lot of work for the Bank. Wilson did not sign his work. Rather, he inserted a profile of a buffalo in each of his pieces. The Bank lasted around six months in 1968 and ultimately succumbed to police harassment, but it left behind an interesting poster legacy. To that point, this piece is featured in the Art of Rock book on Page 282, Plate 3.86. This original Moby Grape poster from the Bank Measures 14 1/2" x 20" And is in Good condition, with multiple staple holes throughout, the upper right corner has severe damage, including missing paper, an edge tear near the left corner, bottom left corner has damage, and is missing paper from having been hastily taken down, water damage throughout, most likely due to rainy weather, exposure, and an edge tear at lower left by the knife. That said, the piece still presents well and is a desirable and scarce poster from the Art of Rock book.
