AUCTION - AOR 3.69 - Big Brother Janis Joplin - Griffin & Moscoso - 1968 Poster - Shrine Expo Hall - Very Good
AUCTION - AOR 3.69 - Big Brother Janis Joplin - Griffin & Moscoso - 1968 Poster - Shrine Expo Hall - Very Good
This striking gem of a poster is a collaboration between two of rock art's all-time greats: Rick Griffin, and Victor Moscoso. This powerhouse duo did this piece for a gig at the Shrine Exposition Hall in Los Angeles, CA. Big Brother and the Holding Company with Janis Joplin headlined, with Albert King and Pacific Gas and Electric (PGE) opening the show. The show dates were November 2–4, 1968. The synergy between Moscoso and Griffin is pure genius at work. Reminiscent of their comic book work, but so much larger than a comic book! Measuring 16" x 26 1/2", the piece really grabs you by the eyeballs! This exuberant, vibrant, and brilliant collaboration is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 277, plate, 3.69. This Big Brother Los Angeles Shrine poster is in Excellent condition, with edge wear, handling, corner bends, and surface wear. Never put up. The colors are super strong. These LA print runs were smaller than those in San Francisco. That and its size make this quite a scarce poster and a real find.
