AUCTION - AOR 2.183 - Trip or Freak - Grateful Dead - 1967 Poster - Excellent
AUCTION - AOR 2.183 - Trip or Freak - Grateful Dead - 1967 Poster - Excellent
We are pleased to offer this highly desirable original 1967 poster for a Halloween Eve show at Winterland featuring the Grateful Dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service & Big Brother & the Holding Company. This is the coveted Trip or Freak (Trick or Treat) poster. The artwork is a collaboration by 3 of the psychedelic sixties best: Rick Griffin, Alton Kelley, and Stanley Mouse. Mouse drew the wispy lady & lettering up top, Kelley did the collage of Lon Chaney from the Phantom of the Opera and Griffin did the psychedelic lettering of the bands. Rumor had it that the background images of the phantom were dosed LSD tabs. You’ll find the poster prominently pictured in the Art of Rock book on page 185, plate 2.183. The measurements are roughly 26 1/4” x 14 1/4”. The poster remains in excellent condition, with handling bends and creases, with a curl in the upper right. The colors are still well-saturated! There are no pinholes, tape, or tears. This a very good copy and a great opportunity to snag one of the most requested posters out there!
