AUCTION - AOR 2.93 - Allman Brothers - Closing of Fillmore East - 1971 Poster - Very Good

Offered for auction here is the poster for the final months of Bill Graham's Fillmore East in 1971. Located in New York City, the Fillmore East was open for a little over three years, from 1968–71. The poster artwork is by David Biyrd (who also did the original Woodstock poster, as well as the iconic Jimi Hendrix at Fillmore East poster). The design idea is one that Bill Graham would use again and again (particularly with T-shirts) with later venues, namely listing all the acts one after the other. Byrd populates the background with not only all the musical acts but the light show artists as well. On top of it all (literally), we have the star-studded lineups for the grand final month: Leon Russell, Frank Zappa, Alice Cooper, B B King, Johnny, and Edgar Winter, and the Allman Brothers, just to skim the headliners. "Thank You and Farewell From Bill and the Fillmore Family". This end-of-an-era poster is printed on thin, glossy stock and measures 18 1/8" x 24 5/8", approximately. The poster is featured in the Art of Rock book on Page 158, Plate 2.93, and is in Very Good condition, with waviness throughout, the upper right corner tip is missing, and toning and edge wear across the top.
