AUCTION - Southern California Oracle - Very First Issue - 1967 - Underground Newspaper - Very Good

Offered here for auction is Volume One, Number One of the Southern California Oracle newspaper. This super rare paper came out in March 1967 and it is impressive. The full-color front and back cover sort of merge together to create a wraparound effect and they were put up on a lot of walls. Inside, we find the regular cover and tons of the articles, poems, and artwork these newspapers are always replete with. There's a very cool full-color ad for the Grand Opening of the fabled Kaleidoscope nightclub, which has the same circular format as the highly collectible round posters. That series of posters can point to this ad for their Genesis, as the ad came out before any posters were printed. So much earlier that no bands are listed as upcoming performers for opening night, (turned out to be the Grateful Dead and Canned Heat). There's also an ad for the LA Love-In at Elysium Park. Superb, mostly uncredited, but really beautiful full-page art sprinkled liberally throughout the paper.

This very hard-to-come-by underground newspaper measures 11 1/2" x 15" and is in Very Good condition, with spine wear, edge wear, numerous edge tears on the inside pages, and wear and tear along the machine folds. This is the only one we have ever had.
