AUCTION - Plasmatics - The Pier - Stiff Album Promo - New York City - 1981 Concert Poster - Excellent
This is an original concert poster for The Plasmatics, advertising a concert on "Friday, Sept. 12th" at "Pier 62". The show included a planned explosion of a car and stage, noting "The Car Has No Brakes She Must Jump Out Of The Moving Car Before Impact With The Stage." The concert was intended to promote the band's upcoming album "New Hope For The Wretched," with the album cover featuring band members posed around a Cadillac submerged in a pool.
Nearly 10,000 people crowded the streets and watched from adjacent buildings as Wendy O. Williams, the lead singer, floored the car loaded with explosives towards the stage. She leaped out seconds before impact, triggering a mass of destruction, and then entered the Hudson River. Known for their wild live shows featuring flaunted sexuality and chainsaw destruction of material culture items, this event became the band's defining moment. The poster is in excellent condition with handling bends and a curl from being rolled. It measures 18" x 36".
Also included in this lot is a promotional poster for their album "Beyond The Valley of 1984". It's machine folded into 8ths and has handling a piece of tape on the back. It measures 22" x 28".
