AUCTION - FD-2 - King Kong Memorial - 1966 Handbill - Very Good

Here is an exceptionally rare Family Dog handbill. This is FD 2, known as "King Kong". The show date was February 26, 1966. Talk about the dawn of the scene, folks. The bands are the Great Society (with Grace Slick before Jefferson Airplane), the Grass Roots, Big Brother and the Holding Company, and Quicksilver Messenger Service. Held at the Fillmore auditorium when both Bill Graham and Chet  Helms had an agreement to share the venue. The artwork is a collaboration between seminal poster artist West Wilson and Family Dog promoter Chet Helms. Helms, in fact, did almost all of the artwork, with Wilson contributing the Family Dog logo at the upper left. This logo went on to become the official logo from that point on. This is its first appearance in its refined form. This super early, super rare handbill measures 8 5/16" x 5 7/16". The condition is Very Good. The piece has had restoration in the corners and along the edges to repair holes and tears. Still displays some waviness, along with a horizontal fold at the middle. Presents very well. An exceedingly rare handbill.

This auction has a reserve.
