AUCTION - Straight Theatre - Appeal 1974 Poster - San Francisco - Excellent

Offered here for auction is an appeal poster to get San Francisco city tax funds for people's enterprises to resurrect the defunct Straight Theater located on Haight Street. The theater served as a countercultural hub and was well beloved by staff and patrons alike. Absolutely magnificent pen and ink by Bobby Jones. Wonderfully detailed snapshot of the boarded-up theater and the surrounding Haight Street area. Just remarkable stuff. "The Straight Theater is our building. Fight for it", it says at the top, and that really sums it up nicely. This piece was done in July 1974, and it reflects a certain struggle to maintain the scene in the Haight–Ashbury. The piece measures approximately 17 1/2" x 23". This Straight Theatre appeal poster is in Excellent condition, with edge wear, a stain near the center top, and a tear at the bottom center which has been repaired with Scotch tape and handling.
