AUCTION - BG-1 - Jefferson Airplane - Original Printing Plate - Fillmore Auditorium - Excellent

AUCTION - BG-1 - Jefferson Airplane - Original Printing Plate - Fillmore Auditorium - Excellent

AUCTION - BG-1 - Jefferson Airplane - Original Printing Plate - Fillmore Auditorium - Excellent

Offered for auction is a printing plate for BG 1 in the Bill Graham Series. the shows took place February 4-6, 1966. The shows were billed as “Free Dance Concerts”, with a suggested two dollar donation. The plate has the full sized poster, as well as four postcards. Creative Lithograph Co. is the printer and they have numbered this plate No.1 as well. This plate was made in response to high demand for early Fillmore artwork, circa 1967 and 1968. The first plate for BG 1 had no handbills on it, as these were printed separately, on thinner stock, and often in monochrome. Those handbills became scarce quickly, hence the demand for older postcards  and posters. Although this plate is for the reprinted BG 1, it is well over fifty years old and truly an artifact of the era. People really did want to get a complete set, even way back then! The first printing plate may not even exist at this point. The plate measures 24 1/16” X 25 1/2” and is in excellent condition, with the odd ding, which is the result of handling. Really minimal for a plate over fifty years old. One of a kind.
