AUCTION - Grateful Dead - Longshoremen's Hall Two-Sided Benefit 1967 Handbill - Near Mint Minus

This piece is truly rare and exceptional. Here we have a two-sided handbill, all about the 1967 Spring Mobilization to End the War in Vietnam. This featured a whole week of events all over the San Francisco Bay Area, with the benefit concert venue being Longshoremen's Hall in San Francisco. The bands listed are Sopwith Camel, Quicksilver Messenger Service, and Big Brother and the Holding Company, Country Joe & The Fish. And, written along the left edge, the Grateful Dead! Printed on tan fibrous stock. The red ink has been applied more heavily in some places and shows through on the reverse, whereas other parts are more lightly inked. There is so much information on the back that it really becomes a vivid snapshot of the times and a valuable historical document, really. By this time, the anti-war movement was gaining momentum. Angry Art Week, one of the main beneficiaries of the concert, shows how intertwined art and politics were back then. The handbill measures 8 1/2" X 11" and is in Near Mint Minus condition, with a little edge handling and a tiny edge tear at the right-center. Handwritten in blue ballpoint pen on the reverse at bottom right is "1967". Super rare, historical handbill.
