AUCTION - Political - Black Panther Party 1967 Newspaper - Condition - Excellent

This newspaper offered for auction is Volume 1, issue 6 of The Black Panther, published bi-weekly by the Black Panther Party For Self Defense. This issue came out on November 23rd, 1967. Virtually the entire front page is devoted to an editorial and an iconic photo of Huey Newton, who was in jail at the time. "Huey Must Be Set Free" screams the headline. Inside, we have lots of information concerning the movement and social oppression. There are also several captioned drawings by Emory Douglas, a party member, and quite an accomplished artist. From portraits to cartoons, Emory's work really stands out and is sought after by collectors. All told, there are twelve pages of art, intellect, and insight into a popular movement that only becomes more relevant day by day. A real snapshot from 1967. This folio newspaper measures 17 3/4" X 11 3/4', approximately. This first-year edition of The Black Panther newspaper is in Excellent condition, with edgewear and the appropriate toning that goes with aging newsprint stock that is over fifty years old. Very clean. Strong stuff.
