AUCTION - AOR Pg.331 - John Lee Hooker Grimshaw - 1971 Poster - Hill Auditorium - Near Mint Minus

This Ann  Arbor, Michigan poster is sort of a Mount Rushmore of the Blues: Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy, and Junior Wells would look good sculpted out of a mountain! Here they all are at the Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor, Michigan on Friday, September 17th, 1971. The artwork is by the truly titanic Gary Grimshaw, where he uses an absolutely wonderful photo of John Lee Hooker, taken by the masterful photographer, Stanley Livingston, and gives it the focus it deserves. Stunning work that both draws you in and commands your respect. Grimshaw lets the picture do the talking and the accompanying lettering, color choices and overall design all reinforce that idea. This strong poster from the early 1970's measures 16" X 22", approximately. The piece is in Near Mint Minus condition, with only a bit of handling and some edge wear. Curls a bit from having been rolled. The kind of piece that can command attention. Featured in the Art of Rock book on page 331 at upper left.
